What is a Friends of Jitokeze chapter?
a group of people from a North American neighborhood association, civic or faith community, who band together to undergird the work of Jitokeze Wamama Wafrika in Africa and committed to a mutual relationship of sharing, dialogue and education about our common search for globally sustainable lifestyles, justice and peace.
Committments of a Friends of Jitokeze Chapter
To partner with one self help group of your choice (see the Snapshot of Jitokezes program for more detailed information) by raising funds needed to support the Self Help Group in annually ($9,000 is needed for one self-help group in West Pokot, several chapters can combine to raise this amount.). This amount can be raised through monthly pledges from active Chapter members or through fundraising efforts for money or gifts-in-kind.
To grow in awareness about the impacts of climate change on the poor and about the work of Jitokeze, with the goal of building greater understanding in its community regarding sustainability. This commitment involves annually reading and discussing one book recommended by the Friends of Jitokeze board.
To keep active and mutual dialogue/ communication among the Chapter members, as well as with the Self Help Group that the Chapter is partnering with and with the board of the Friends of Jitokeze.
